Three year ago, a Facebook group titled, “Duxbury helping Duxbury” was created by a member of the community. The initial motive for this private group was to “be a place where anyone in the community can post a need. If there is someone who has the ability to help, in one way or another, then this is the place to connect” said Julie O’Leary Delaney, Administrator of Duxbury Helping Duxbury.
Over the last year or so, the group has taken one a whole new objective. While some members stick to good, kind-hearted postings, others in the town use this group to complain, bicker, and create unnecessary drama. Between the mix of service advertisements, recommendations, and friendly citizens, you will come across some very disturbing arguments.
Typically, they begin by someone who has a personal problem with a fellow “Duxbarian” and chooses to publicize the issue opposed to contacting that person directly. As soon as the community sees that post, instantly people will build a thread of arguments over who is right or wrong. The administrator has the right to take down any post that dishonors the rules. However, some are taken down without good reason, and other remain public that should be taken down.
In some instances, people’s personal privacy has been at risk, due to the ignorance of the community. Addresses have been exposed, licenses have been posted, names have been accused, and much more drama. I believe it is time for Duxbury to evaluate the manner in which we want our town to respect each other and peacefully coexisting as a community. Is this really Duxbury helping Duxbury or is it Duxbury bashing Duxbury?
